Dreamcast-Era Sega World
Sega World Funabori is AMAZING and EXCITING according to the signage, which is fading.
Ground floor of this sleepy game centre is kiddyland – all multicoloured cartoon-character crane games. I get a suspicious look from a dad with three knee-grabbers as he smokes a cigarette in his courier service uniform.
It’s 3pm. He’s letting his kids feed the grown-up coinpushers and watching some slob play a speedboat racing management game I’ve not seen before. It has a reclining chair with built-in cupholder and ashtray.
Upstairs is karaoke, a carpark exit (so it’s not central Tokyo) and a staffed reception making it hard to sneak photographs of the ageing decor.
